There are also many smaller green spaces and parks in Nice, where it is possible to relax amongst the many Mediterranean plants and flowers that flourish here.

Nice's main botanical gardens is known for its 22-metre / 72-foot high tropical hothouse, which is home to some 2,500 plant species. Also popular at the Phoenix Parc Floral de Nice park is the Ile des Temps Révolus (The Island that Time Forgot), which is set in the middle of an artificial lake. The park organizes an array of exhibitions and educational activities during the year.

The Parc du Château's hilltop position means that visitors can enjoy great panoramic views over Vieux Nice and the Promenade des Anglais. The park was named after a château, which was built on the original site of the old town and later destroyed. A waterfall, children's play area and medieval ruins are just some of the attractions that bring visitors and Nice locals in their droves. If you want to leave the car behind, then the park can be reached via a strenuous walk to the top. Alternatively, visitors can take a lift.

This area of parkland in Nice's wealthy Cimiez district is a popular place to come for a stroll and to admire the views from the top of the hill. The Arènes et Jardins de Cimiez features beautiful gardens, an olive grove, Roman ampitheatres and a monastery garden.

The stunning setting of the Corniche Fleurie makes a perfect backdrop for another of Nice's botanical gardens. Within its 7.5 acres / 3 hectares, hundreds of Mediterranean plants and flowers make for a magnificent floral display.

Tucked away on the rooftop of Nice's contemporary art gallery is one of the city's most novel gardens, the Jardin d'Eden. To give it that authentic air, there are even special bird sound effects. As you'd expect, this a wonderful place to sit and enjoy fine views over Nice. Visitors should note that access to the garden can only be gained via the art gallery itself.
